IMB Review Report

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), at the request of the Polio Oversight Board, commissioned an external review of polio endemic countries between June-September 2018. The goal of the review was to assess what is working well and what could be further strengthened; to identify any major constraints; and to recommend any actions to accelerate progress towards wild poliovirus eradication. A multi-disciplinary team of five independent experts travelled to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. The team spent approximately 10 days in each country and travelled to some of the most critical and high-risk locations for wild poliovirus transmission. Interviews were conducted at multiple levels of the programme, including with mothers, fathers, frontline workers, programme managers and government officials.
