In 2024, the Polio Oversight Board (POB) officially extended the GPEI’s 2022-2026 Strategy to the end of 2029 and approved a revised budget of US $6.9 billion for the extended 2022-2029 Strategy. These decisions come at a critical time: poliovirus persists in some of the most difficult environments in the world to deliver healthcare, and as such the programme has extended its strategy while adapting tactics to the remaining geographic and political challenges.
