The GPEI Strategy 2022-2026 lays out the roadmap to achieving a lasting world free of all forms of poliovirus. The Strategy has two clear goals:
Goal 1: Interrupt All Poliovirus Transmission in Endemic Countries
Goal 2: Stop Transmission of Variant Poliovirus and Prevent Outbreaks in Non-endemic countries.
The Strategy combines proven and time-tested approaches with strengthened, innovative and targeted eradication tactics, to achieve its stated goals, and is supported by critical enabling factors to maximise impact. Strategic and tactical approaches are constantly analysed and evaluated by the GPEI, and adapted in a dynamic way to reflect evolving epidemiological, virologic, operational, political, cultural-societal and financial developments, and taking advantage of new tools and solutions as they are developed.
The ultimate aim of the Strategy is to ensure that no child anywhere will ever again be paralysed by any form of poliovirus.
