What we do – GPEI
What We do

The ultimate aim of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, as it aims to achieve a lasting world free of all forms of poliovirus, is to reach and vaccinate every single child, multiple times, with polio vaccines. Whether through routine immunization or supplementary immunization activities.

Reaching every single child is underpinned by a wide range of operational, logistical, programmatic, virological, technical, financial, human, political, socio-cultural and other factors.  And of course, by the availability of a well-managed supply of different polio vaccine formulations.

In ‘what we do’, we present and summarise the various aspects of the polio eradication tactical and strategic elements in more depth:  from ensuring sufficient vaccine supply, to strong disease surveillance, community and country engagement, operations, epidemiological and virologic analysis in tracking virus transmission and sensitizing strategies – all in efforts to reach the last remaining child with polio vaccine.
