Tajikistan launched supplement immunization campaign against polio.
On 31 May Tajikistan started a supplement immunization campaign against poliomyelitis to vaccinate all children under the age of six with two doses of oral polio vaccine. The campaign was planned and prepared to stop the transmission of the poliovirus circulating in Tajikistan. Since November 2020, nine cases of polio were confirmed among the children with acute flaccid paralysis throughout the country.
The campaign is led by the Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan (MoHSPP) and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), and other partners within the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).
